    Lighting Info

EcoZone dimming works with standard incandescent and halogen basking and spot lamps, no special fixture required.
For dimming Linear Fluorescent lamps, you need a fixture which utilizes a dimmable ballast (like the EcoZone dimmable fluorescent fixtures)

EcoZone dimmable fluorescent fixtures are compatible with all standard T8 and T5 linear fluorescent tubes.
With the dimmable fixture, you get dimming and dusk/dawn simulation with your standard lamps.

Dimmable Ballasts for Linear Fluorescent Fixtures

EcoZone controllers fluorescent lighting dimming functions are compatible with Advance Mark X Power-Line dimmable ballasts.
These are the ballasts included in EcoZone dimmable lighting fixtures.

You can specify these ballasts to lighting manufacturers to ensure dimmer compatibility with EcoZone Controllers.
Note: Only an electrician or otherwsie trained expert should perform a ballast retrofit or replacement in a lighting fixture!

    Dimmable Compact Fluorescent Bulbs

Screw-type Compact Fluorescent bulbs can be obtain in both dimmable and non-dimmable versions. The common Reptile screw-type UVB Compact Fluorescent Bulbs, such as those by Exo-Terra, Zoo-Med, etc., are not dimmable. They may dim slightly when used with the Ez400 Vivarium controller, perhaps down to 50% brightness, but overall, the bulb type is not dimmable, thus the dimming performance is poor.
However, there are screw-type compact fluorescent bulbs available which are dimmable, and provide excellent dimming performance. Look for a “daylight” or “full spectrum” bulb, 6500K or 6700K is best for use in a vivarium, and that it is indicated as “Dimmable”.
One such bulb type is shown below, others may be available:

Note, the bulb listed above is rated for EVB emission output, so do not rely on these for your herps UVB needs.

    T5 Fluorescent Reptile Lighting

T5 Fluorescent Lamp selection can be confusing. Reptile bulbs are available in the 28W "standard output" variety. Marine and aquarium bulbs are available in the 54W "high output" variety. Our T5 fixture is designed for the High Output 54W variety, but we are in the process of evaluating the 28W reptile bulbs use.

Often the bulbs are advertised as "48-inch", but in practice, these bulbs are not 48 inches, but 44.5 inches!

For T5 HO 54W lighting, we recommend the Aquarium and Reef variety. Use a 6500K or 6700K "daylight" or 1000K "full spectrum" lamp for crisp white light.

    Where to buy:
T5 HO 10000K "48-inch" (note these are all really 44.5", which is what works in these fixtures)!
